The Miser of Morell
03:48
|
|||
Sit down sonny and I’ll tell you a story, of a poor wretched sin of a man
Born in Morell or some say hell, I’ll believe in the latter if I can.
Oh he lived for the ladies and he lived for the liquor, till he found himself in cards one day
Said “It’s can’t be sinning if I just keep winning, so I’ll take all your money if I may!”
Cause there ain`t none wiser than the Morell Miser
You got to give that devil his due
If you think yourself wiser than that Morell Miser
You’re gonna get what’s coming to you
Well the priest of the parish didn’t like this to much, the collection was coming up dry
The totals had him floored, so he prayed unto the Lord, and just then that Miser walked by
He said “Father, it’s a shame! That collection is a shame! Some might call it a sin!
If you’re willing and you’re able, come on down to my table, and see what you can win!”
Cause there ain`t none wiser than the Morell Miser
You got to give that devil his due
If you think yourself wiser than that Morell Miser
You’re gonna get what’s coming to you
So he said the Our Father and he sat at the table, I’ll tell you what he did see
A farmer, the barber, an MLA’s daughter, and a member of the RCMP
Then the miser showed up and those cards started flying, the money started changing hands
Before he dealt some more something fell on the floor, and that’s when it all hit the fan
Cause there ain`t none wiser than the Morell Miser
You got to give that devil his due
If you think yourself wiser than that Morell Miser
You’re gonna get what’s coming to you
What fell to the floor no one seems to know, the farmer did take a peek
He said no more, ran straight out the door, the barber let out a shriek
Then the miser stood up, and their jaws all dropped, the priest said the good lord`s name
With hooves and a tail that miser did wail, and vanish in a ball of flame
Cause there ain`t none wiser than the Morell Miser
You got to give that devil his due
If you think yourself wiser than that Morell Miser
You’re gonna get what’s coming to you

Red Roads of Home
04:06
|

I long for a time before I knew,
The terrible things a man could do.
A time where I could walk with you,
Down those red roads of home.
The bombs they stopped some 10 years ago
It seems it’s all I’ll ever know
Some things a man just can’t let go
No matter what he tries
I see the guns all through the night
I wake up ready for a fight
The only enemy in my sight
More red tape and lies
I long for a time before I knew,
The terrible things a man could do.
A time where I could walk with you,
Down those red roads of home.
In the mirror all I see
(Is) a shell of what I used to be
Standing right in front of me
A prisoner of his pain.
We kept the peace as best we could
Saw things that no man ever should
And no one ever understood
We’d never be the same.
I long for a time before I knew,
The terrible things a man could do.
A time where I could walk with you,
Down those red roads of home.
In the mirror all I see
(Is) a shell of what I used to be
Standing right in front of me
A prisoner of his pain.
We kept this peace as best we could
Saw things that no one ever should
And no one ever understood
We’ll never be the same.

Those time in life define
The people we have become today
Those times in life remind us
That things are never gonna be the same
It seems so long ago
But we’re not slowing down
And every one’s a reason
I love and hate this stupid town
Sitting on the kitchen floor lighting shots of one fifty one
It tasted like the Devil but it burned me like the sun
We passed out in the attic by that boarded up doorway
I still think that place is haunted I don’t care what people say
Those time in life define
The people we have become today
Those times in life remind us
That things are never gonna be the same
It seems so long ago
But we’re not slowing down
And every one’s a reason
I love and hate this stupid town
We were cashing in our empties just so we could pay the rent
That landlord couldn’t stand us but he loved those cheques we sent.
Those time in life define
The people we have become today
Those times in life remind us
That things are never gonna be the same
It seems so long ago
But we’re not slowing down
And every one’s a reason
I love and hate this stupid town

The Gallows
05:10
|
|||
I’ll rise in the east and I’ll follow the sun
For fear they should find me and learn what I’ve down
Now I am New England bound banished from my home
Forced to leave the place I love and cursed to be alone
They’ll try me and they’ll taunt me
And when they’ve had their fill
They’ll drag me to the gallows
And hang me on the hill.
They’ll try me and they’ll taunt me
And when they’ve had their fill
They’ll drag me to the gallows
And hang me on the hill.
I took a life to spare a life
And now I bear that shame
The only one who know the truth
Can’t speak to clear my name
One quick right in the dead of night
Forever hunts my soul
Now she’s paralyzed by fear
And I‘m left in the cold
They’ll try me and they’ll taunt me
And when they’ve had their fill
They’ll drag me to the gallows
And hang me on the hill.
They’ll try me and they’ll taunt me
And when they’ve had their fill
They’ll drag me to the gallows
And hang me on the hill.

Cold Black Sea
05:26
|
|||
When I was just a boy, my old grandfather said to me
Oh, beware the songs of sirens, child, cause they call good men to sea.
I would stand upon the cape and dream of sights that I would see
When I leave my plough for a packet ship and those sails would set me free.
A ship may said unhindered but a man is never free
When he’s caught between the devil and the cold black sea
If I did it all again, I’m not sure where I would be
But I never court the devil or the cold black sea.
Oh, I made my way to an old port town many miles from the home I knew
With a whole lot of time and a little bit of coin, what’s a lone young man to do?
I found my way to the public house where the drink and the girls found me
And I found myself in a fair bit of trouble, so I fled to the cold black sea.
A ship may said unhindered but a man is never free
When he’s caught between the devil and the cold black sea
If I did it all again, I’m not sure where I would be
But I never court the devil or the cold black sea.
I set out to find freedom, but the trouble that I found
Had me dealing with the devil to avoid that burial mound
And if you don’t believe my words I’ll be glad to leave you be
If you never court the devil and beware that cold black sea
A ship may said unhindered but a man is never free
When he’s caught between the devil and the cold black sea
If I did it all again, I’m not sure where I would be
But I never court the devil or the cold black sea.

The Ship is Going Down
03:24
|
|||
The bells were ringing early throughout the streets of town
Out upon the water no trouble could be found
Eighteen hundred fifty three the bells of Saint James sound
No bell can help a man of God whose ship is going down
The ship is going down
16 started out that day the morning of the bell
7 stayed beneath the waves forever damned to hell
No time to help your fellow man you both will surely drown
Cut the rope and save yourself the ship is going down
The ship is going down
Dressed in white they rang the bell 8 times to set them free
For the ship they sailed upon and 7 left to sea
Eighteen hundred fifty three the bells of Saint James sound
No bell can help a man of God whose ship is going down
The ship is going down
